It's basically the difference between a Dana 35 and a Dana 28 front end. Autozone's computer seems to lump all Ranger based vehicles (RBV's) into one group for a lot of parts. Pre 1990 RBV's (Bronco II's and Rangers) used a smaller Dana 28 front end, which uses the smaller U-joints. Your Explorer uses a Dana 35 front end which takes the larger u-joints. If someone would explain to Autozone's computer the difference between and D28 and a D35 and what specific applications used which axle, they wouldn't need to ask. For their programmers/database managers, though, it was just easier to ask the customer to measure the bearing cup.

In short, you want the larger u-joint.
 






As Mr. Shorty indicated 1.188" is the size you need.. If you accidentally bought the smaller one you would see it is way too small to fit..
 






Check a few Autozones in your are.. The prices are not the same for every store.
