i was wondering if someone could give me an idea of what i'd encounter if i took apart the rear hatch door. i've been looking for a place to install dual subs (size is yet to be determined. at least 10 inch) but i need to maintain the functionality of folding the seats down. i can't find a place to stick them anywhere within the cargo area. i currently have 2 10's in a box in the cargo area but thats a real pain in the ass to move around all the time. other than making the hatch a hell of a lot heavier, what'd stop me from building boxes into the hatch door. i know it'd rattle like its nobodys business and running wire would take a buttload of time, but i think it'd look okay to see 2 10's or 12's staring you in the face when someone in the back seat turned around. basicly my question is weather its even possible or weather the power wipers takes up a lot of space. the door isnt so thick so you'd of course have to build it outward in any case.

Seems to me you would need to shave the rear wiper and take the motor out in order to have space for a speaker. Then a butload of dynomatting. You would need to cut some of the metal out of the hatch, and then probably make fiberglass enclosures to keep the weight down. Finally you might need to somehow beef up the 'shocks' that keep the door open. Other than that, sounds sweet.

Another option is to remove your spare tire and cut out a piece of the floor and build the box there.

that seems like a whole lot of time consuming work. the rear door would probably have to come off in order to work on it properly. by the sounds of it, its not an afternoon job by any means. even the fanciest sterio place in town would choke at being asked to do that (not a big town)... the thought of losing my rear wiper isnt so appealing. i actually use that thing. meh. i guess i'm stuck with a fat block in the cargo area

i like that idea. i might do that if theres anough room.

people have done that before. Do a search and you can probably find more info.
