UH OH- overspray on the X!!!

Well I now have small tiny specs of what appears to be house paint up the drivers side of my X.
It's not coming off after a washing, cleaner wax, & clay bar. I did get a few off with paint thinner but it mostly just smears it.

Any detailers out there reccomend anything to get this off.

tan house paint on my nice & shiny Toredor Red X doesnt work..

Go get some Mother's Rubbing Compound and follow the instructions.

You said you tried a clay bar??
My dad got some overspray off his truck with a product called "Clay Magic." It took him a couple of applications and almost an entire Saturday to do the whole thing (1991 Ford F-150 Ext.Cab, Long Bed), but it cleaned all the overspray from the clear coat.

What about trying some tar remover?? It's safe for the clearcoat. Might be worth a try.

I did try a clay bar but its 4 yrs old, so I'm going to try a new Meguiars bar tonight. Every body supply place I called states to liberally apply Meguiars Quick Detailer to the body and to the clay bar, make sure you flatten into a pancake and run until the spots go away.

Almost as original as a Herculined hootus...

My suggestion is a razor blade and soapy water. That's how my dad used to cut runs out of paint back in his younger days. Just be careful not to cut into the Explorer's paint.

Here's what really works....


Human urine! I know it sounds crazy, but piss on your Xplorer and after letting it sit for a minute or two, wipe off with a dry terry cloth towel.

That is messed up, but it makes sense to me with all the salt in there. How did you find that out?

When I was detailing, I used a razor blade to get anything off of paint that solvent wouldn't.

It does take practice and and slow hand, but it can be done without scratching. Hold the blade at a very very low angle to the paint and move it real slow and real straight. You need very little pressure to remove over spray.

I'd much rather use a blade than pee on my paint!!

try the clay bar stuff agin it should work. then i know the bug and tar remover just be diligent. rubbing compound might. mineral spirits. maybe. xylene will for sure but be sure to soap and water after the xylene and a hard polish or wax if thats what you are using. the urine actually works. it also cures athletes foot and swimmers ear but it has to be you own urine. remember do not use the urine method until after you have washed your hands if you have been handling chemicals.
a commercial detail shop should be able to get it off. the place i used to work at would charge 60 bucks for something like that.

hrmm, hard to believe that the clay bar didnt work. i have this stuff i use on really hard core smudges and dead paint (mostly on my sisters truck, shes always getting crap all over her explorer.) its made by meguiars but i forget the name, it comes in a dark red bottle shaped just like a regular wax bottle, and it removes dead paint and stuff like that. now that i think of it, it might just simply be called "scratch remover." anyway, i would be extremely surprised if it didnt work. its clearcoat safe and its never failed me yet. might be like 5-7 bucks for a bottle.

my sister once pulled her truck in the garage and scraped the driver side all along the wall (yanno where the garage door comes down) and she got tan paint from the outside of our house all down the side of her navy explorer. nothing took it off, then i tried this meguiars stuff and it worked great. got all the paint off (her truck was still scratched up pretty bad though, from the wall.)

I can't believe none of you have ever tried the Urine method. I heard about this usefull little trick from my neighbor. He's always washing his truck, and on occassion I'll catch him Urinating on various body panels. I eventually asked why (I don't see too many people pissing on their ride!), and he turned me on to his SECRET. I was amazed. Everything from Bugs, Wax, Tree Sap, Paint, Tar etc. seemed to come right off with very little effort.

Am I convinced?

well, i would never use urine for swimmers ear.... i hate getting water in my ears, no way would i put urine in there. what if it doesn't come out? that would suck.
