Under Hood Light

That is one thing that I have never liked about my 2000 Sport, is the lack of an under hood light. My old Bronco II had it, and my Caddy has it. (I'm spoiled I guess).

It is just easier to check the oil in the dark, early morning etc, with the light. Why did Ford stop putting this in, and can I install one from a previous year Explorer and how? Thanks!

I'm sure you can. All you need is a power source. The switch is built into the bulb mechanism so it should be simple to do.

That's what I didn't understand either. My 96 has one but my GFs 98 doesn't!? She doesn't have a glove box light either! Do you 98+ guys? Was it an option or something??

Well here is mine. (You can tell how bored I am).

Just a postive and ground wire running down to the firewall and jumping in the pack with the rest of the guys. I'm sure any of you clever wiring guys could figure out a place to wiring it up.

'97 and I got glove box light, hood light, interior lights, fog lights, head lights, whooo hooo lights, lights, everywhere!

01 sport, i have a glove box light, no hood light.

i can just imagine.. Dealer installed accessorys:
Glove Box light ........$43.22
Under Hood Light ....$66.50
Total installed options $109.72

Thanks, looks like a project that I will be diving into. I think that one light will be enough though.
