Underpowered 5x7's

I have 4 Alpline SPS-570a's. I was wondering if installing an amp to them would make a big difference in sound. They sound kindof muddled when turned up & other people have mentioned that if they are UNDERPOWERED they tend to do that. I have bypassed the amp. Just wanted some advice from this group before I made any decisions. I'm looking into getting an 2 alpine amps (1 4way for the doors, and 1 mono for a 12in sub) to go with my alpine cda-9830 HU.

By the way, My HU is 18watts per channel, My 5x7's are rated at 40RMS per speaker.

With an amplifier you will be much more likely to get clean sound than a HU near full volume. I think I may have the same speaker, and have the same high voume distortion. I am installing a small Mtx to take care of it hopefully.

To go along with what Mbrooks420 just said, also a higher wattage (18 vs. 40) will definitley be noticeable. I highly recommend you get the best amps you can afford though, it can make all the difference.
