Hopefully someone will recognize this issue.

My 2000 Explorer 4WD/Automatic was running fine when all of a sudden my ABS light came on. Then it felt like my brakes were locked or something. After pulling over I was able to roll the car in neutral so obviously it wasn't the brakes.

Then when I put the vehicle in drive or reverse it clunks and stalls. Transmission was replaced by previous owner back in 05. Should I be worried?

Help.

first thing take the wheels off one a time and clean the abs sensors on each wheel the reset the computer with a scanner or by removing the neg battery cable then go for a 25 or 30 mile ride

Sounds like what happens when the torque converter clutch sticks on. If so it will usually be more of a problem when the transmission is warmed up. Good luck let us know what you find. Ck what code came up on the ABS if you can.

Wow! I just talked to the previous owner and they traded it in because they were having problems with the torque converter clutch. Is there a way to make the car driveable to get it to my mechanic? I am trying to avoid a tow. I'm guessing there's no reset button... ;)
