So I just got new tires for my X, some 265 70 R-15s that fit nicely on my stock '96 XLT. I had a noise issue with the old tires that it was really loud between 30 and 50 mph with the loudest point being 40mph. I thought it could maybe be the Tranny (rebuilt/replaced in December), so I put it in neutral while rolling down a hill one day and it still made the noise. So it still makes this loud rolling noise at the same speeds now. It hasn't gotten a full alignment yet, that happens monday. Is it an alignment issue causing this loud drive noise? I can't figure it out at all. I do know that the alignment was out of whack, the old tires were bald on the left inside front tire but did have even wear on the right front tire.

sounds like it may be bearings

Ball Bearings eh.

How much are those to replace and who makes some good ones that will last awhile?

bbbbb ump

So I went for the alignment today and found out that it is DEFINITELY bearings causing the rumbling noise, since the noise goes away when I turn the wheel to the right. I have another question now though. I'm wondering if the alignment/bearings are related. I know i'd been driving on ****ty tires for a LONG time. I'm wondering if the horrible alignment put extra stress onto the bearings on the left wheel.....the same one that had the inside of it's tire completely bald. But there's also another glitch too. Whenever I pull out on the right....my steering is choppy....not broken axle choppy ( I don't think)....I'm wondering if the bad ball bearings are causing this too. Any ideas?!
