Hey guys need some input. My '97 4WD has got over 250K on it now. I'm putting my second set of lowers on, and about to do my set of uppers on the truck. Question is this: Can you just replace the ball joint on the UCA? The guy at Advance Auto says he can get just the joint and I can press it in the OEM uppers. I'm not planning on keeping the truck for a whole lot longer and don't want to put anymore cash in it than I have to.

Thanks in advance,
Trey.

I've heard that you CAN, but its a whole lot harder than just replacing the assembly. And honestly, the arm and balljoint assembly isn't really expensive. I just did mine. Got the parts from www.rockauto.com.

I would just go ahead and get the assembly. Just keep in mind that if you have the 2 piece upper on the passenger side, you will need to buy the "alignment kit" which is the ecentric bolts. If you have the one piece you already have the kit installed.

Thanks guys. I just ordered the left upper assembly from Rock and had it shipped for less than $40!!!!

I'll have to check on the other side to see if I got the 1pc or 2pc.

I should have checked with Rock before. They had the cheapest hub for my Z71 with Timken bearings.

You probably have the 2pc, but I believe you can replace it with a 1pc. Thats what I did anyway.
