I have a 2003 ford explorer XLT and a couple of weeks ago we were driving on the highway and the engine light kept coming on and off then it came back on and stayed on and it was pulling so we took it to a mechanics and the scanned it and put codes in and rest the computer they said it was cylinder 1 miss fire. After that it seemed to be running fine until yesterday the light come back on again then off and the pulling was starting & today the light is still on and the pulling is starting to get really bad even when i'm on 70k it has to be something else wrong with it but what thats the question.
Has the happened to you before and what did you do to fix it.
Please help guys

Mine was doing the same thing and the scanner read No8 misfire.
Turned out the sparkplug well was full of coolant.
Diagnosis is a leaking manifold gasket, but in the short term I just blew all the coolant out from around the plug with compressed air and replaced the coil as the coolant had made the rubber boot swell.
That was 3 months ago and still going well. It might take a year to fill back up again so this is alot cheaper and easier than doing the manifold gasket
