Ok I wanna save up the money and get a 1996 explorer V-8 and computer and swap that for my v-6 or i can pay my explorer off and just get a v-8 expo but then i would have to reinstall my system yet again. A new v-8 forom ford is 2500 I can prolly get a low milage v-8 out of a wreked explorer for 1500-2000 But would it be the same? Im think i can get 3000 trade in for my explorer (1996 but 150,000 miles on it) I can get a 1997 or 1998 for around 8000-9000 so a new explorer would be more it cost mew 5000 to 6000 dollars what do u guys sugest I can get the swap for very low cost because im taking A.S.E classes now bnut i dont want my car to break down every week i want a good daily driver

If you're going to do a swap.. you don't just want to buy the motor because you'll need TONS of other things. Driveshafts, radiator, tranny cooler lines, etc. There is so much more to swapping a motor than just the motor. Get a complete donor vehicle and you'll have every part you could need.

After that, the swap should be fairly easy.

EDIT: Also, you can get a 5.0L out of a '96 for more like $500. Never pay more than $650! :D

really were would a local junkyard be coo and shhouls i try and get the whole car and which is better for the swap the explorer 5.0 or the mustang 5.0?

because if i can get the vehical for 500 ill do thew swap next paycheck should i take a code reader to the junkyard to make sure nothing is wrong with the engine before i buy it?

Check eBay. There's deals on there all the time.

Get the Explorer V8 also. You'll probably want to run it using an Explorer computer, so you'll have to use all the Explorer sensors and harnesses anyways. Plus it will be much easier to install a motor that is an option in your ride than it would be to stick one it that needs lots of custom work to make it gooo.

so hows this how about i go to a junkyeard and gte a wreked on how do i find if the engine is still good? and I can get the enginew and the coimputer for 2500 from ford and could u give me a link to a good toeing harness

if you already have the SOHC, you might have the bigger radiator and dont need to swap em. Doug knows what size it should be, i cant remember off hand...

Probably a good idea to go ahead and put a higher flow fuel pump in there too. If you plan to ever put a cam on it and stuff, do it while its out of the truck!
