For the V8 guys, do you have a mechanical fan or an electric fan. My 02 V6 has a mech. fan and the clutch sounds like its going out again (roaring at low speeds and getting on my nerves.) I'm thinking of adding an electric fan from a Mark 8 or maybe something aftermarket, but thought I would see if the V8's had one first.

I have a '97 Mountaineer 5.0 and it is a mechanical fan.

I have on 2004 Mountaineer V-8 Mechanical Fan. The roar you hear is a good thing. It means the fan clutch is working at keeping the engine cool and also pulling air thru the A/C Conndenser so you can stay cool. The mechanical/fluid Fan Clutch is used still in most trucks and SUV to handle the heat load for towing and the heat a V-8 puts out. I would not reccomend a electric fan, I do not think you could keep it cool, and I am positive your A/C perfomance will suffer.

For modified Mustangs, most people have been using Lincoln Mark 8 fans with stock radiators and digital fan controller. This keeps them well below the factory operation temp of 180* even with the A/C on. Mechanical fans disengage after a set rpm (Mustangs it is around 2000rpm or so) and will not pull anymore air through the condensor and radiator. I guess I need to ask this question in the modified section.

Drew,
my Australian (Brazil buily) V8 4.6ltr X has a mechanical fan, which makes it about the only new car sold recently in Oz that isn't fitted with Elec fans. We'd use Davies Craig thermo's to eliminate your problem down here, good luck chief
