v8 in a 95 x

I've been contemplating doing a late model mustang engine either the 5.0L or even the 4.6L (it loves boost)
in my X. All I have seen is people doing it in the 91-94 X. Has anyone done this. If so what did you have to buy and how hard was it. I will prob. be doing this swap with a couple of my friends who have done about 20 engine swaps in different cars but never an X.

A swap in your truck is a drop in procedure. You can use the mounts, hedders, exhaust, air cleaner, etc. from a '96 Explorer to mount a 5.0L. You will need to get a transfer case adapter for what ever tranny you plan to use but that would be the about it. You can even get an Explorer or Mountaineer engine and tranny from a wreckers just to make the swap easier.

As for a 4.6L, you would be on your own there, I don't think anyone has even tried to do that swap yet. I don't feel that a 4.6L engine would be very good for an offroad application, not enough torque.
