Hey
I have a '94 xlt with 80k. I was having some tranny problems. When it was cold it wouldn't want to shift into gears it was in neutral until you hit the gas a little. Then when you would stop at a stop light/sign it would go back in neutral. I went and had it checked out. They said my vaccum modulator was leaking and I had no tranny fluid left. I was wondering if that would be a very easy fix? Also would that try it put it in 4 wheel drive? When I drive I hear this really bad nosie from the hubs like the 4 wheel drive is trying to engage. Could that be becuase of my vaccum mod, or is it something else?

Search for a thread about replacing the vacuum modulator by removing the carpet under the seat. It is almost impossible to get at from under the car with the exhaust installed. Part is only about $12 and a shop will charge about $140 installed. Until then keep an eye on the fluid level. You might also find the engine oil level increasing.
