Can someone help me? I recently bought a 05 Explorer. The check fuel cap goes on. So i stopped to check it, take it off put it back on, check to see if its tight, snaps off in my hand, so i bought an after market one, light still stays on also the service engine soon light is now staying on. Stupid me take it to the dealership, they tell me it is the vacuum canister and canister solenoid, so that equals $457.00 in parts oh yeah another $57.00 for p.c software update & $300.00 in labour Totals$814.00 So i said thanx but no thanx. Apparently the driveshaft has to come out to get to it.. When i picked it up @ the dealership both warning lights are now out.Does anybody know if this has to be done or were they just trying to rip me ??

are any of the cel on??...if the lights are off i would just leave it until they come back on...then go to autozone to get them read and see what codes come up...

is it the evap canister for the fuel tank that they told you? i replaced mine on my 02 explorer and my mechanic did not have to drop the driveshaft...the evap canister is located by the fuel tank...and the other one is located in the engine bay....have to check my Chilton Repair Manual to see exactly from there...maybe you can pick one up also to check it out for yourself
