Should be stuck near the hood latch near the top of the radiator

There is a vacuum octopus connecting thing on the driver side of the upper intake. This is where the vacuum lines connect to the engine. Depending on the options you have on the vehicle you may have 2 or 3 (I don't think I've seen one with 4) ports that are capped off.

After many years, a cap may have become brittle and broke/blew off. If so, just cap it off again

Another thing that can happen... If you have an automatic transmission, there is a vacuum line from the shift modulator on the passenger side of the trans up to the vacuum octopus. If the modulator goes bad it can let transmission fluid up which will then make all the hoses soft and you will most likely blow off hoses and caps.

So, look around the vacuum ocotus first.

'91 explorer vacuum problems

Maniak,
we capped off a outlet facing firewall and it solved problem. But we have been losing transmission fluid with no indication outside of tranny or leaking on ground, so possibility of what you said on passenger side deal.every month or so it will clunk into gear or slip and we put some fluid in and fixes it so think this is it. thank you for your input. mamasue69:thumbsup:
