Well, been awhile since I posted. November of 2010, I parted ways with my 91 explorer after nearly 20 years of ownership and 325k miles. Essentially, it just rotted out and I replaced it with a cheap, used, decent condition full size pickup.
But I'm back with a quick question. I was looking at purchasing a 97 Explorer 5.0 AWD. However, I'm not looking to drive it, I just want the engine for another project car. The body is in good shape. Car has 176k miles on it.
If I try parting it out, what sort of value is on parts such as tailgates, doors, computers, rear end (know this is an item that jeeps are interested in), etc. Just trying to figure out if the truck is worth the effort to part out, or just take the engine and have a salvage company just haul it off after. I'm basically getting the truck for the value of the engine, which isn't much. the truck just would need too much work to get road safe again. Brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, tires, transfer case just to name a few.
I know the value is based on condition, so for now, assume the body parts are on good condition (which most are) and everything else works.
Thanks for any insight.
