I was wanting to know if anyone has a Code 3 MX7000 on their Explorer, and possibly a pic. I am debating whether I should put it on, or go with hide-a-aways? Any opinions would also be nice. :D

i have thought about an MX7000 as it is an excelent lightbar, but there are two main issues(Besides cost)
1)You will need to cut a hole in your roof, and if not completley sealed, you are lookin at rusting and leakage onto your head - not fun

2)aestetic value - some people consider a lightbar ugly, whereas hideaways are out of sight until you need them. right now i have hideaways (flatlighter and some wigwags - gettin more deck lights soon)and they work great.

i guess its all an issue of taste. if you do get the mx7000, youre going to want to go with the 47" lightbar, not anything larger. i have a 48" arrowstick and it stocks out over the sides of my hatch slightly

I thought you could run the wires for the lightbar through the door jam?. About the hide-a-ways, right now I have 3 deckblasters, a dual strobe Galls dash light, working on 6 strobes...or 4 for the head and taillights. MO Fire School is this weekend so maybe I can pick some more stuff up for cheap there.

i wouldnt run wires in the door jamb - then this will disrupt the water tight connection to your door causing your door to leak. may not even be a problem, but theres always a chance. also, by running it in the door jamb, you are subjecting the insulation on the wires to stress and after a while you may develop a short (see my thread on my i built my center console - live wires + no insulation = trouble)

My Lightbar

I am a member of the Department of Emergency Management where I live. I have a 36" Starbar 9300H that I modified. When I am not using the lightbar, it is stored in the rear of my 91'. I converted the lightbar to a magnetic mount and have connections located just within the passengers door. It uses four 250 lb pull magnets that hold it in place. Never has moved while on the road. My rig also has LED strobes in the grill and in the rear window. I can put on a light show if I wanted to, or run undercover.
