Very bad sqeaking from front suspension

OK, now I really dont know whats going on. I took the X to pep boys to have it looked at and guess what they said... Nothing was wrong!!! They guy told me that it looked like it was just starting to squeak because it was getting rusty and all I need to do is lube all the rubber bushings.

I get a $1600 estimate from Ford and I get a "lube all your rubber bushings" from pepboys.
So now Im asking ya'll, what do you think I should do. Should I take it in for a 3rd inspection to see who is right? This is starting to get expensive paying for all these estimates and I havent even fixed anything yet.:fire:

im still surprised that they are charging for inspections...even monroe mufflers, the king of all rip offs, doesnt charge for the inspection. i would just try the cheapest thing first, IE, lube everything. if you only went wheeling once...through nothing major, then i highly doubt you caused $1600 in repairs. but ya, gettin things wet tends to make them lose their lube, and then they squeak. i am by no means a pro-mechanic, just my $.02 and what i would do. hope it helps

Some times when you replace bushings, some Polyuerothane Bushings require to be greased up, if not after a while of wheelin or muddin, even everyday driving they can begin to squeek, try that, may save you some money, you never know!

Definitely go for a third optinion to a REAL mechanic. Ford dealerships and chain shops don't count. They suck. Once you get a real mechanic to look at it, get back to us. I have a feeling it's your ball joints and the prices will be alot more reasonable than Ford's.

I realize this is a pretty old thread to dig up, but I have the same EXACT problem with a squeaky front end. I was spraying WD40 all over the front suspension parts, on any joint/bushing I could find. It used to go away sometimes, seemingly without reason (weather, humidity, temperature). Now the squeaking in the front end is REALLY bad all the time, and worsening. It squeals and creaks like hell when I turn the steering wheel, go over bumps or even when I move the truck slightly getting in and out. Tex, did you ever get the problem resolved, and what was the outcome?

I think there have been some more frequent posts than this one that might help you out Chris. I too have a dreaded creak that alerts me when going over the tiniest speed bump in the grocery store parking lot. I think I have mine narrowed down to the forward most part of the torsion bar.....anywho, perhaps do a search or two here at the forum.... I know there are similar scenarios such as yours. Happy hunting!

just my two cents.

I can tell you just where the annoying squeak is comming from, I had the same problem with my mustang before i bought my X and on it a few months ago. It is an easy fix, Take a grease gun with a needle attachment and grease the crap out of the rubber bushings on the sway bar and the king bolts. It fixed my stang and fixed my X as well. . . hope that works for you
