Guys, I have a problem. When i am street driving my truck makes a VERY loud screaching noise. I thought it might be my brakes, but it wont make the sound while im turning (if so i cant hear it) nor does it make the sound in reverse. I thought then, that it might be the driveshaft (since i have lately been hearing a slight squeak in ratio with the speed of the truck but then i heard that the truck was still making that slight squeak as well as this horrendous one. I am out of ideas guys. Hopefully someone on here can give me some enlightenment soon as I am trying to make the Uhwarrie run next saturday with some guys off the forum. Thanks in advance.

since you said the noise stops while your turning i initially think wheel bearings. maybe

Have you checked all your belts? Easy stuff first.

i think it might be a real wheel bearing....does that need to be replaced immediately? and can i wheel with it busted? (wheeling trip this weekend)

if it is your wheel brg. and its that loud DO NOT DRIVE IT..however spray SOME LUBE [WD40] on belt and see if noise changes at all or if not goes away.
2ND) while the noise is occurring, lightly press and hold brake just enough to start to slow the car down. not any more be sure you have enough speed so as the car wont stop. if the noise changes while press the pedal then its brake inspection time

well its funny...the noise is gone  it happened on that one trip to the video store and back...and then never again. But my dad seems to think its a wheel bearing. I have no idea.

i think you kciked a rock up in the dust shiled on the rear brakes. It squealed loudly until it popped back out. pull the tire and inspect the rotor for any visible scarring or scratches that look abnormal and make sure you dont have any gravels or debris in the dust shield.

It wont hurt to jack the front end up and fell if there is any slack in youre wheel bearings. Id rather be safe then sorry.
