I posted a message a good time ago about a problem I was having with my Explorer. When in reverse at slow speeds when turning my X seems to want to stall, I could feel a noticable vibration. Someone told me that it was probably my IAC. So I cleaned it and it hasn't really improved it. Someone from Ford told me that it had to do with the power steering lines being inadequite or something to that regard. Do you guys think I ought just replace the IAC completely. I'm not sure if its gone bad or not. I don't know how to determine that.

IAC

Can someone tell me how to I can determine if my IAC has gone bad.

You can test resistance with an ohmmeter:

http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiB..._us/0900823d/80/0b/98/f5/0900823d800b98f5.jsp

This may tell you if it is bad, but it is possible for it to be sticking and it would still test ok on the ohmmeter.

Another test is to disconnect it (electrically)while the engine is idling and see if the idle speed changes. If it doesn't then it is likely that it is bad, because it is supposed to let in air to control the idle speed. If the engine dies or almost dies when you disconnect it, then it is probably working ok.

The best indication that the IAC is bad is if the engine idles too low and dies easily when trying to take off. This should be true in either R or in Drive.
