also what are the different axle codes?

Don't know about the radio, but my 96 Xlt axle code is D4 which is 3.73 limited slip

with the premium sound system, are there amps placed thoughout the cab or is there just a single amp behind the dash?

Single amp located behind the passanger side quarter panel.

If you have the CD/cassette combo, then your amp is internal. If you only have a CD player or a cassette player, then the amp is in the rear quarter panel.

Thats right, I didn't see he had a '98. Aren't they internal no matter what after '98?

Todd, I'm not very sure. I looked at a CD unit from a '98 and it looked exactly the same as the ones from '95-'97.
