Viscosity of tranny fluid

My neighbor added a quart of tranny fluid (damn yellow bottles) to her 95 explorer. It hadn't been started since the fluid was added, so I don't think it was distributed throughout the motor. I immediately drained her oil and even ran a quart of oil to try and aid in the drainage of what ever tranny fluid was left in the motor. I also advised her to have the oil changed again and along with a new filter ASAP. Anything I missed? What are the major concerns she might have to look out for?

BTW: What is the viscosity of transmission fluid? ;-)

I don't think transmission fluid will hurt the motor. Just draining it and refilling it will do the trick. I mean, alot of the 91-93 guys have run their motors on it for a while when the vacuum modulator went south

It is also an old trick for cleaning out the gunk from the motor before an oil change.. Add some (not an entire bottle) of ATF.. run it at idle for a bit (don't drive it)...

then drain and change oil/filter like normal..

The transmission fluid will probably clean the engine very nicely like said above but I don't think it's recommended for newer engines. Also if I remember right, if you you add trans fluid to your gas tank it cleans the engine right up but plugs up your catalytic converter. The older cars and trucks didn't have catalytic converters so this trick worked quite well from what I've heard.

Thanks for the quick and thorough replies. I will let her know that the tranny fluid shouldn't cause any problems, but it is not the preferred engine lubrication of choice by members of this Explorer forum.

ATF is about a 10 viscosity.

I'd have her change the oil and filter pronto, as you stated above. ATF is not designed to handle the by-products of combustion.
