I can tell you there certainly was no loss of low-end torque with just the KKM.
If you get a system with a bad MAF seal, and a low-quality filter, then yeah, it'll feel like it looses torque but gains HP because it'll flow more air only at high RPM, where the HP is anyway.
It doesn't take less force to heat up the mixture, but it does take less fuel to burn warmer air than cooler air (cooler air is more dense), so you use less gas.
