Wacky Voltage guages!

I have two 4.0 litre 1994 Ford products, an Explorer XLT and a B4000 4WD extra cab pickup. Now when I start either of them the voltage guage needle is stuck in the upper left position and won't move unless you pound on top of the dash with your fist. I know all of the guages are simply modified idiot lights but this dives me crazy. Anyone else ever run into this?

Same problem....

I have the same issue. My guage is pegged to left hand side and only returns to a somewhat normal position when I turn the lights on. I can't help you with a fix but It doesn't seem to hurt anything..
