Want to add an auxillary input line for my IPOD

Is this even possible in this vehicle? The reason I ask is because I did this in my SHO Taurus a couple years ago and it has been great. I still had the look of the stock sound system yet was able to listen to my IPOD and not have to mess with transmitters and cassette adapters.

Now it said something like if the amp is built in the head unit this will not work. I think it is in Explorers correct? If so is there any other way to rig up something like this or is this a no go? I'm not at all an electrical guy or audio guy so please ignore my ignorance. Any input would be great. Thanks.

I recommend an after market head unit, alot of them have MP3 imput, ie IPOD. The alpine model I have is specifically for an IPOD, it uses a more indepth cable to connect rather than a headphone jack. It also has a similar color to my dash so it almost looks stock.

I really like this idea. It is pricey but I guess in the end it could be worse. I was trying to read up on it and what I was getting is you just unhook the CD changer from the back of the head unit and plug this in? Is this right?

The prices are crazy! I just saw one for $129.99 at another location. Check ebay too... They are supposed to attach to the back of the h/u run through glove comptmnt to iPod and done...

It's a lot cheaper too! I didn't even know these things existed. The only catch is I would lose the use of my CD changer correct? Which wouldn't matter if I had my Ipod.

I only here good loud sound coming out of the left speakers and very low sound coming out of the right. Tried one of those transmitters and it doesn't sound very good either. I really want to keep my factory stereo even though my cd player doesn't work. Or possibly is there a later Ford stereo that has and aux that is the same physical size and looks very similar to this..

do you have any sentimental feelings towards your broken radio?
if the cd player doesnt work and you dont have aux like you want i say just get an aftermarket one that fits.. fairly easy to install (especially with the help of the internet these days) and you can check crutchfield to see if it will be a direct fit. I would buy elsewhere though as that place is expensive.. but does have terrific customer service to show for it. i bought my first aftermarket radio like 5 years ago for 100 bucks.. has cd player, aux, and usb, and sounds way better than factory unit. I dont need anything more until i do a major overhaul and do a dvd navi unit..

Well yes I do have sentimental value. I wouldn't be driving a 14 year old vehicle and have had 3 explorers if i wasn't. I understand what your saying and i have looked at newer stereos several times but i like the look of the original and want to stay with that. Just wondering if someone has actually tried one of these and how it sounds? I don't have a need for cd's anyways except for at home.
