2011 Explorer Limited
Hello, had out Explorer limited w Navi for 3 weeks, after months of searching for the right one.
It was rear ended yesterday with the girlfriend and dog in the car.
Everone was okay, other than a little sore, the Explorer is a total loss. When it was rear ended from behind she also hit the guy in front.

Hopefully I can find another one for us, as we really loved everything about it.

:) anyone else have new explorer crash pictures???

Welcome to the Forum s_vares. :wavey:
It is very unfortunate that you had to introduce yourself in this manner. Glad to hear that everyone is okay. Just curious as to what the other end looks like. For a vehicle that has been written off, it seems to have done its job of protecting the occupants.

Yeah it took a good hit, floor is crumpled up to 2nd row seating and rear rails are accordianed.
The dodge that hit it was pretty messed up too.
front end just needs a bumper cover, but the damage to the rear was too bad to save

Wow, sorry to see that. Glad everyone was OK.

Here are pictures of when I was rear-ended. 3 months after purchase. Nothing like yours, but did cost over $6K to fix. New rear hatch, bumper cover, tow hitch, and some other internal stuff.....

Here's a website for wrecked pics:

https://www.autobidmaster.com/carfi...y=*&state=*&zipPostalCode=&mileageRange=99999

Most of these are shallow, but occasionally there are some doozies. I have one, but can't post it/don't know how to post without an online source. It had to have been a HARD, BAD head on collision because:
A. the engine was sitting off to the side
B. the front end was smashed in to the pillar system
C. the roof line was buckled above the A-pillar AND the B pillar.

It's intersting that this car buckles easily in rear impact, though the rear end is kind of round which I think would increase the buckling.

How hard were you hit from the rear?

The California Highway Patrol is having their entire squat car fleet replaced in the next two years with awd/4wd explorers - I guess the testing in San Diego went well. Those ones can withstand a 75 mph rear impact. I wish civilian models could too.

I was hit when the person behind me jumped the gun at a stop light. I had just let of the brake and was getting ready to accelerate when the person behind me accelerated a bit faster and harder than me.

How fast was the other person going? We're you stopped?

I've been lucky not to get hit (knock on wood), yikes! However the Explorer did it's ultimate job in the end, and made sure no one had serious injuries :) Just be thankful!

Im not sure how fast the dodge ram was going.
Explorer was at a dead stop, and the kid in the ram claimed he was doing 30km/h which obviosly isnt the case.

Neither the ront of rear doors open or close properly, the entire body is twisted.

Here is a picture of the right rear frame rail (left is the same) The black part is the hitch I just installed.
I put some lines in with paint to show you how it looks and should look as its a little confusing. Red line is how it should be.
Hitch was not actually hit.

Explorer was an AWD Limited 302. Just bought another one on friday!! :)

wow! so many dead explorers! may they all RIP, even though they are riddled with quirks and disgruntled MFT systems.

I love looking at other peoples picture albums.......

But what the heck is this about???? :D
