washington sas people take my money

Being that I am a planner and like to have all my ducks in a row, let's throw this idea out there. Let's do it at my place in Mount Vernon, it's also 90ranajo's(Bob) place. Let's shoot for a weekend in August where both myself and Bob will be back from Japan and we can get it done prior to the run down south at Evan's creek. In the meantime moose1 can work on getting all the parts together needed for the swap, with help and advice from us. Then we have everything readu to go, we meet here, bring whatever tools you want, especially a second welder to make things go faster, and we can get it done in a weekend:D

A weekend huh. Damn, so when are you conning me into dragging the D30 out of the top of my garage and bringing my welder over? :D
I was too skeered to start on my own and spend a few months at it. I'm coils though not leaves. :p

Moose, take my advice and do not put a BL in if you are going to SAS in August. I have way too damn much money in my rig knowing that it will all get ripped out for upgrades to upgrades. Don't make my mistake. Start with what you want.

I agree with dreamr on that one. I have about $18,000 in my Ex and it would only be about 12-13K if not for the rework and just doing it right the first time. However, I am about to rework mine again. Going full width axles, triangulated 4 link in the rear and coil overs at all 4 corners. I am currently in the planning and aquiring parts phase:D

You should leave it though. Besides would you not rather have all SL on that Pony?
I never said anything about putting a BL on the Pony. I just need to get "The white One" lower for MPG's

The Pony is getting 18 mpg city and 24 highway :p :p :p :p :p

I got lots of ideas floating around my head about what to do with the bronco2 and the explorer????????????????????????

I think I will find a explorer with bad trans/engine and put my engine and transmission out of my explorer in it, there is one in oregon that i know of that I can get for $500 and then put my full width axles etc.. in the bronco I did some cutting with a plasma cutter to make the 37's fit so it needs more than doors and fenders, it will still be awhile before I have the bronco ready for the trails I would like to have it done with in a year

Im not going to do the bl, I realy want to do the sas I just didnt want to rip into anything with my surgery coming up, but if its a go for aug. I should be recoverd by then and it would be fine. I just need to know what i am going to need as far as parts and tires.

Im palnning on going salvage yard diving this weekend........

anyone...........out there

yeah, just got back from Moab about 6 hours ago. still unpacking, cleaning up, and fixing the Ranger.

For a parts list the first thing you have to do is decide which route you are going to take. HP D30, HP D44, EB D44, full width, Explorer width, coils, leafs, coil overs, four link, radius arm style, etc...

In other words not to be rude, but take advatage of the search feature. Dozens and dozens of folks have swapped their rigs to any and all of those options. See what it is that you like, and what they needed to do their swap, then start collecting parts. The first step with the parts collection though is to chart the route and buy an axle that meets your needs then rebuild it. Once all that's done you can worry about suspension and steering.

To give you an idea though....One day I will swap my HP D30 under there with a Jeep long arm 4-link kit and coils. What do I need?

The axle - 150-300
Ball Joints 100
axle u-joints 750
axle shafts??? 200
dust shields (axle shaft) 25
Hubs 200
brake rotors 150
4.56 gears and carrier (open?) installed with master rebuild kit 700-900
locker? 400-900 depending

Steering
1st gen steering box 25-50
Drop Pitman arm 40
tierods and draglink 200+
trac-bar 150-200
steering stabilizer 50

Suspension
Long Arm Kit (4 link) 500
Tranny crossmember (custom) 100-200
Link Mounts (custom) 50-100
Bushings 50-100
Coils 150
Coil buckets (custom) 50-100
Shocks 100
swaybars? (make em work if needed)
Rear to SOA 50-75

And don't forget about new driveshafts and a new yoke on the axle

Now I know I missed a few things, but that's the gist for my swap with a coiled D30.

I dont want coils up front I want to go with leafs. What would be a streetable axle but still allow me good off road capabilitys. I'm in contact with some one about a 80's wagoneer front suspension will this work

Like I said you need to do some research and figure out exactly what you want, then figure out what you need. I put up my parts list to give you an idea of what I would need. Coils or leaves you still need almost all of those parts just minus the control arms and coils. There are literally dozens of leaf sprung SAS's on this site. Use that search feature.

As to streetability. I don't think it'll make much difference what axle you choose. That is more dependant on the suspension layout.
