Finally, after 13 years and 220,000 miles, it is acting up. In freezing/very cold weather, first start, i get coolant out the center front of the motor for about 30 seconds, then it stops with no more leak. My gues is the shaft seal is wearing, and when the cooling system has back pressure before the coolant fully starts to circulate and thermostat opens, it pushes out. No problem on the leak, I accept it.

Many years back I did replace the plastic thermostat housings, I do not see any leaks there.

So, at some point it will be water pump time. Is there a good thread about the process, tips to help, etc I can refer to? I did a few searches here with no applicable matches.

Many thanks in advance

Many thanks for the quick response!

That makes it look easy, but having worked in the front of the motor already, I know this job will be a slow one.

I hate using gloves and never found working close to razor sharp radiator fins any fun. Take your time, you'll get it done.

I've started covering the radiator fins with a piece of cardboard after I dropped a wrench and hit the radiator. The cardboard protects both the radiator and my hands.

Sometimes it's worth the little bit of extra effort to just remove the radiator and get it out of the way.

^ That's smart, common sense thinking. I look at radiators like giant cheese graters. LOL
