hey guys, i am new here, my first of my questions :p.

Well, i waxed my black explorer awhile back, and i managed to get some of the wax on the plastic trim (like near the wiper area and the plastic on the bumper), and now it looks like its stained white. how can i remove the wax from the plastic areas?

i have not. armor all makes something that can remove it?

Welcome to the boards!!! You'll learn sooooooo much and you might get the bug too.

Anyways...to your problem. Try a little bit of simple green and see if it works. If it doesn't, get a bottle of 303 Cleaner and Protectant. That stuff can take anything off.

I've heard people using peanut butter too. Spread the peanut butter on the affected area for a few minutes, then wipe off.

And I want pics of your fully detailed truck!!!!!!:p

Just don't have the urge to lick it. :p

Armor-All will only hide it for a little while before it comes back again. I know, I tried it myself. Nothing you could do about it short of sanding it smooth and painting it back to black. If anyone has a better, easier method I'd like to know because I got white spots in powder white also on the windshield wiper cowl. I'm thinking of just painting it all black.

Yup!

I use Prep-Sol. Takes it right off and cleans up the plastic

use a paintbrush, cut off half of the bristles so that it is pretty stiff, and brush it into the pours of the plastic.

And what are we brushing into the pours of the plastic?

Something that is mildly abrasive like toothpaste, maybe?? I'm not sure. I've been thinking about the toothbrush and toothpaste idea too. It sounds like a pretty good idea.

Use a toothbrush and use the peanutbutter. It is mildly abbrasive. Ooh and its cheaper than toothpaste. :p

dishsoap...its what you use to strip wax to reapply everything...put some on a paper towel with a little water..rub just the plastic you got wax on, then dry it off.

Nothing, the bristles on the brush should remove the wax from the pours of the plastic. You can use the brush aroung moldings on paint, on aroung the pinstriping where wax is kinda hard to remove.

I have always used the toothbrush (with nothing) and it has always worked for me...
I agree Armor-all doesn't seem to help for any length of time.

pencil erasers work too =)

or those big pink erasers you can get anywhere

just make sure if you use a pencil eraser to avoid the metal ring holding the eraser to the pencil

pencil erasers work too =)
Holy crap Batman!! I just gave it a try and it works! Looks like I have a new way, Thanks indifference!!:chug:

now that i have all these new ideas, i was wondering if these ideas will work on wax that was on the plastic for over a year...

wouldn't a tooth brush do the same thing?

Yeah I guess so, but the paint brush would be a little more stiff. And stiff is good.:smoke:

A little rubbing alcohol will take any wax off of that plastic. I like the idea of the eraser. As far as peanut butter goes, personally it seems a little extreme to smear and wipe off that stuff...save it for lunch!
