Got a coolant leak. Crawled under to see where it is coming from and really cant tell it is dripping down the back side of the engine and hitting the bell houseing. Where would this be originating from? any ways to investigate? I am thinking its a gasket somewhere, maybe an intake manifold gasket?

Any secrete ways of tracking this down?

Could be intake manifold gasket like you say. Also check the heating system, as coolant might be leaking there by the firewall and leaking down. I'm not as familiar with 2nd gen, but if you've got a freeze plug back there look into that. Coolant could be getting blown all the way back by the wind from the front hoses or rad, too.

Doubt it is getting blown back since the only wind it has seen in a month is in my driveway. I only fired it up to move it and let it run a bit. DOn't like it to sit too long without running.... Didn't think about the freeze plug, I will have to find out where it would be located.

This is the SOHC.

I'm sure that you have already thought of this. But I was watching someone track down a coolant leak on one of the sunday morning auto shows...I think it was Two Guys Garage. Anyway they used a flouresent dye. Put it in the radiator, let it run for awhile then take a blacklight which is supplied with the dye kit to pin point the leak. THey showed it on camera and the dye really stood out where the leak was. I thought it was a pretty cool way to find the leak, heckofa lot eaiser than crawling around under the truck trying to find it! Hope that helps!!

Coolant Leak

I had a weird leak as well. Finally found it when engine was hot. Check the valve that diverts coolant to your heater core. Black plastic valve toward the back left side of engine compartment, near firewall. It has 3 coolant hoses connectected to it with a vacuum line that actuates the valve. I replaced it and the leak stopped.

Just noticed that my '95 Sport (110K miles) developed a leak in this same spot. Do you have the Ford Part number so as to make ordering one easier?

Thanks,

Mike
