I have this weird intermittent metallic rattling sound coming from the front of my X. Can't tell if it's engine, driveline, or suspension. It sounds like a loose screw thats just rattling around and hitting against metal at a fast rate; kinda tinny sounding. I tried taking a video of it today by my iPhone mic didn't really pick up enough of the sound.

It only seems to happen under load/acceleration; as soon as I let off the throttle it goes away. If I shift into neutral while it's happening it also goes away. If I kick off overdrive and let it downshift into 3rd it didn't help.

I've noticed now difference in driving, vibrations, feel, idle, shifting, etc. It used to be very infrequent but of late it's become more frequent.

I'll try to get a better sound clip tomorrow if I can, but the iphone mic kind of sucks for far away sound.

it's probably a heatshield (that has broken weld or missing bolt) vibrating

it's a different sound then that. it's a more high pitched faster sound.

I've heard the broken heat shield sound, because i had one on my old 97 mounty.
