weird noise in my engine

whenever i turn on my car i can hear a weird noise that resembles what you might hear if you stuck something metal in a fan. Does anyone know what this might be. It is a 97 explorer 4wd with about 100K miles.

check your fan shroud, or that area...if you have somthing loose or hanging there, it might be getting hit by the fan.

Does it have the OHV engine or the SOHC engine?

If it's the SOHC, have you had the recall done on the timing chain tensioners?

thats what my problem is

My car doe sthe same thing and it also makes the noise sometimes while driving slow. It is the recall on the timing chain. My dealer hasn;t gotten the parts in to fix it yet, has anyone had theirs fixed?

Yeah it is a SOHC, and no i haven't had the recall on the timing chain tensioners. you think thats what it is.

Timing chain tensioners! Search for 00m12 warranty program. You may be SOL cause the warranty was to 75K.
