I have a 97 xlt 2wd. Lately I've heard a popping noise that sounds like it's coming from under or behind the glove box. It's never constant and never longs enough for me to jump out and pop the hood. At first I thought it was the brakes
So I had them replaced but it didn't solve the problem. The popping noise might be soft or it may be loud and shake the truck a little. It doesn’t happen when I'm driving. Mainly stopping at lights. I have had it pop after stopping and turning the engine off. (That’s what really confuses me) any body heard of this kind of problem. It doesn't affect the truck I just want it to stop.

Could be the compressor clutch going south on you.

yeah but a/c is not on.

How are your coolant levels and is there any air in your cooling system

Radiator and reservoir are full. How to know if I have air in the system and how to purge it.

there are several ways I know of to do it. One way, is prop the front end up and while it's running (cold of course) open the radiator cap, which will allow the air to come up and forward, a method I've been told is called "burping" the cooling system. I watched a technician purge this one car by leaving the reservoir open and revving the engine up in park/neutral so it started bubbling into there, and I saw a ton of air coming out and eventually just fluid.... see if those ideas work
