What position did you have your selector in when you were mudding? Are you saying you drove into the hole and the 4x4 stopped working? How do you know your 4x4 stopped working? Tell us exactly what happened with all the operational details and maybe we can figure it out.

ok well i say it was working just because a friend that was watching said that the front wheels were spinning in the first two hole i went into, but in the thrid i got stuck, and realized that they were not spinning anymore. the swith and the light were on 4 hi the entire time. then yesterday i got into my x and i turned the switch and i heard the 4wd engage. but then i treid it today and it did not work..so i am at a loss as to waht could be wrong

If he's listening to it click into 4wd it has to be 4low. If it was acting up in 4hi/auto it would be one of the hall effect sensors and his 4wd lights would flash. Oh, what now though guy?? :p

i was listing for the shift to 4 lo...an there was nothing...so i guess this means the shift motor needs some help

The front end would still spin if it were properly engaged wouldn't it buddy ;) :p :D

Bingo.

i messed up my four wheel drive hub on the driver side climbing pipelines by my house when i first bought it so now i gotta replace the whole hub thats 400 dollars but im switching it to a manual hub instead of automatic for the conversion kit its 210 from A&G Auto Parts thats warn hubs. i heard alot of problems with the automatic front hubs where all you do is hit the button . now how can i tell what kinda front end i got as to axles

Stupid question: Is your truck in N when trying to go to 4wd Low?

yes it was

Make sure you didn't lose an electrical connection on the t/f case. If if was working fine in 4Hi then nothing, that would indicate a problem with the TOD Clutch or the chain. If either goes you usually hear some wierd noises, especially in auto when you decellerate at highway speed. Pull and clean the shift motor as well to verify it is not the reason you have no 4Low. It is cheap/simple diagnostic/fix, and if it is in good working order, it probably means you have a much more expensive issue to deal with.
