hey fellas, i was driving this morning and while i was stuck in traffic i was going over this small bridge with a pretty steep pitch. once i got over the apex, i was on my way down. i was going about 5 mph in bumper to bumper traffic when out of nowhere my engine stalled. i started rolling down the hill and my brakes barely worked. luckily, i got onto the shoulder before i rear ended the car in front of me. once i got to the bottom, i got my rig to stop. i put it in park and started the engine back up and it fired up as normal. i got to work, and back no problem. i checked for codes and no codes. other than the brief stall out, my trac is running like a champ. i just thought it was really weird. no weird signs, no symptoms, it just briefly stalled out of nowhere. anyone know what this might have been caused from? i would like to figure out if this is something i should worry about happening again, it would suck to be rolling down a hill again in traffic and have it cut out or worse. thanks fellas.

oh yeah, my idle is strong and consistent. i just changed the fuel filter, the air filter is a KN cone, its a little dusty, could use a cleaning but nothing crazy. all my fluids are good and the engine and tranny are running great. just a random stall out of nowhere id like to figure out so it doesnt happen again.

The "ST Gremlin" appears randomly without warning.
Even the ST experts don't have a definitive answer.

i was going to say the fuel pump shut off switch under the passenger side dash cause that happened to me on a steep hill offroading but when that trips it wont restart so... weird indeed

I had the same problem a couple of times... no lights, truck if strong... ?

i havent had a stall out since. i even took a 250 mile road trip, some of it off road and no problems anywhere. i just hope it was a one time hiccup. i would hate for this to happen on the freeway or another precarious position.

Steep hill... Over apex... Pointed down... What was your fuel level? Could you have possibly caught an air bubble in the fuel line? Perhaps fuel surged to the front of the tank and away from the pick up tube temporarily, I don't know the placement of these components inside your trucks tank of course but just a thought.

thanks tlutz, i think thats what it may have been. i had less than a 1/4 tank of gas as i came over that bridge. ive kept the tank filled pretty good since and havent had that problem.

Cool deal... I hope that's all it was, seems to mak sense though because if my fuel is low enough on my 97, it won't start unless on level ground or with the nose elevated somewhat. (yes sometimes I have been that broke that the gas got that low lol)
