What’s behind this grill ?

I have recently acquired a 2006 explorer and noticed this grill in the rear compartment on the drivers side . I pulled it back a bit to see what was behind it and could not figure out what it was and took these photos . It is not the enhanced audio speaker which I believe would have been on the passenger side which I do not have . Thanks for any info .

I don't have that year Explorer, but is your gas filler neck on that side, maybe on the outside of the car right about where that grille is?

That was my first thought but then I remembered my fuel inlet is on the passenger side . Thst took some getting used to as out 3 other cars are on the drivers side .

And we have a winner ! Thank you . It’s an odd position for me to be the new guy as with my other car I’m usually the answer guy . I’m sure I will have more newby question in the future .
