I’m going to change the transmission filter on my wife 05 Mountaineer. The truck got 95k miles and the previous owner did a complete flush at the dealership at 80k but never replaced the filter. The transmission working great just want to replace the filter.

I contact Valvoline and Ford to check if the Mercon V they are selling is synthetic blend and both told me its premium oil not synthetic blend. From what I read so far I need to stay away from the maxlife ATF because it’s not approved Mercon V.

I would like to put the Mobil1 Syn ATF but I’m worried that the old transmission will start slipping with full syntactic fluid, am I wrong?

Is there any diffrance between Motorcraf, Valvoline or Castrol Mercon V fluid? Any other option except Royal Purple that cost $15.

I was thinking to add a conditioner because the high millage, what you recommend? Thanks!

I use Mobil1 in both of mine the 02 has 245kish and the 03 has 120kish. I don't use conditioner but many speak highly of Lucas.

Do you remember the cars miles went you start using mobil1?

Mobil 1 meets Mercon V specs and is only slightly more viscous than the motorcraft fluid so no worries with regards to mileage on the transmission. No reason to run a conditioner with a synthetic.
The reason that the filter didn't get changed with the fluid is because the factory maintenance doesn't call for it.

Thank you! I'll use the Mobil1.
