What can I do about this sound I have?

R

Alright, this is weird. I have just been noticing it recently. Whenever I have the volume all the way down, or maybe at 4 I can still hear it barely, the radio is whining (this comes and goes, which is also weird) and everyhting gets all crackled, almost like the sound is coming from a CB. It doesnt do it to the music, but only when there is almost nothing coming out of the speakers. When I first bought the RF amp powering all my door speakers, I had the gains all the way up and the engine noise was really loud. Then I turned the gains down and I couldn't hear it, but every once in a while out of the blue I will get engine noise. I have seen some filters that will get rid of this, will those actually work to keep the noise down even when the gains are up higher? I want to turn the gains up to actually get more power, but I can't really andit is almost like I don't have an amp hooked up to the HU. Anyways, I just am trying to find out why I am getting these weird sounds, and what I can do to fix them. Thanks for your help, oh and I am still waiting on my tax return and the refund for my shocks to get the IDQ sub of someone wants to know (MrSteve---lol)

first, check to see that your power cables aren't crossing your RCA cables. if that ok, try moving the ground to another location. im using the filters in my other car, when i put the MSD ignition in, they niose was soo LOUD but the filters cleared it up by aprox 95% or so. they just into your patch calble. you may also want to try whats called an "interconnect" ground which is connecting the ground from the amps. to the ground of your reciever. all of the grounds should be at the same place. hope this helps cause i know how annoying engine noise is. dang audible tach, good luck

Thanks for the help. The weird thing is, when I put my first amp in for the subs, I ran the power and RCA cables together, I even had them zip-tied together. I still have them like this and never had a problem with noise. Then I read that you should run them oppopsite, so when I put in the new amp I ran the power down the passenger side, and the rca's down the driver's side, and I am getting noise?? How much are those noise filters that plug into the rca's? I have seen some where you splice them into I think, the speaker wires, but the rca version would be better. Also where'd you get them? My grounds are not at the same place, but are pretty close. I have an amp under each side of the rear seat, and the ground is run to a bolt that holds a hing for that "flap" on the back seat. I sanded the area down before to get a good connection, I will have to try and move it around to see if I can get it clearer. Thanks agin for your help, I appreciate it.

The basis for interconnect grounds is because, for some reason, some of the power may not want to travel out through the grounded wire of the amp. Subsequently, the power travels up through the RCAs and to the head unit where the radio is grounded. Rather than grounding everything in one place, you can ground the end of your RCA instead. Many higher end RCAs, even Monster have this feature now too. All it is is a small wire that's connected to the outer sheath of the rca and then you ground it. I had this problem, and the audio shop said they'd just ground the RCA for me.

Those noise filters are pretty cheap. Perhaps you were just lucky with the first amp install, and now the second power wire finally created enough of a problem that it's evident.

Good luck, Rock,

Jon

im buddy buddy with my local stereo shop, which is why pretty much everything in my car i got for dealer cost and i saved even more money by doing my own install. the filters were something like $15 bucks for the pair (dont really need one for the sub) and i would recommend this over the ones that you splice in. my biggest problem with these filters was fitting them in behind the EQ.

ONE MORE THING TO CHECK: is your power cable running across the engine bay?? hmmm.
