I knew nothing about car audio equipment 3 weeks ago,now my system is almost complete, I went with 2 alpine type r components for front doors , 2 type r coaxials for rear, 2 type r 12's, i got a jl audio 300/4, i need a class d amp and a cd player.

Out of these two cd players which should I get?, on paper it looks like the sonys better... but i dont know thats why im asking.

I would go with the Alpine for sure.

You can get it cheaper from Crutchfield using my Crutchfield Referral Code : pjiqx-9kid5-1eryf for $20 off $200 for new customers (this one gives me some Crutchfield credit)

or use 3A825 for $20 off $100 (this one does not)

Crutchfield is also an authorized dealer, while Sonic Electronics is not, if that matters to you.

Honestly neither.... Go with pioneer. Your talking a quality head unit, inexpensive and great tuning abilitys.

whys the alpine cd player better than the sony?

and slick what pioneer are you talking about the most expensive one?

i havent seen a better cd player in my range than the 2.

does anybody know the pros/ cons of these units other than the brand name.

honestly, id go with the sonyjust cause of the dvd capabilities. but then again id rather buy an all in one in dash screen dvd player

Wow, the Pioneer model I was looking at gettings is $100 more at Crutchfield than Newegg, or Onlinecarstereo.

ok here is my view.. go with a cheap head unit that you can tune hertz.. some people swear by this company some swear by that i personaly use a ****ty 80 dollar jvc and i hit 150 dB so its not the head unit. i switched it out for a 1000dollar eclipse and i didnt get any better.. so it really doesnt matter.. its about looks and what you want the head unit to do.. mine has aux and that all i wanted out of it so i could hook up my ipod... i like jvc though.. never had a problem with it..

ive had 4 different jvc and on each one the cd mechanism broke. ill never own a jvc car stereo again, ill stick with the others. but i do agree with you, buy a radio that suites your needs not others.

i dont use cd's so i cant say anything about that... but i use my ipod and it is perfect.. i like eclipse never ever had a problem with them...

As far as pioneer it depends where you look. I bought a brand new 5900mp for 200, A used 9300 for 150. And The new 6000 is 210 i beleive. And tuning abilitys are unbeatable. Never had one issue and ive had around 10 different ones. The 5900 was full motion display. I beleive 10 band custom eq. And so on and so on. And puts out a decent amount of power to the speakers as well

just my honest opinion,,, neither, i have had great luck with my kenwood stuff,,
don't limit your choice to brand,, get the features you want,,
adjustability od sound is most important of all, a deck that has just bass and treble adjustment is a dinosaur,,,,,
most have eq's built in now,

stay far away from sony. as soon as the xplod line came out, sony went downhill for car audio. i have seen many different sony units just start smoking and fry. i have had a bunch of different alpine units and have been very pleased with them. i currently have the iva-w205 and its unbeatable. i have also had pioneer and didnt have a problem with it, but i like alpine better. i work at a shop and we install everything and the majority of the units we are installing these days are eclipse. like everyone else has said though, go to different shops and try out the display models. whichever unit suits your needs is the one you should get.

REALLY BRO DONT LISTEN TO ANY OF US.... ITS ALL UP TO YOU AND WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT THE HEAD UNIT... YOU WILL LEARN ALOT JUST BY SEARCHING... all companys will be fine for what you doing for what you have... JUST DONT BUY FROM A SUPER STORE LIKE WAL-MART OR BEST BUY OR CIRCUIT CITY. GO TO A AUTHORIZED AUDIO STORE.. KEEPS THEM IN BUSINESS AND THEY CAN FIX it if it breaks....

In my experience the 3 top brands are alpine, pioneer and kenwood, there a re some other top brands as eclipse and some others that don came to mind.

In car audio sony is garbage, the problem with every crappy brand is that some of then has made a name in the store buyers, cause you can find then everywhere and they do the work, but things are good for what they do only, they are good for the ratios they have, example, a $200 HU is suppose to be better than a $150 HU, there come the problem with those brands, they sell you a $200 HU (suppose to be a medium level eq.) that works less than a $100 of the top brands cause they have a lot of overrrated info, if they put to those equipment the real price, people wont say they are garbage cause you get what you pay no less than you pay.

End of the line and IMHO, i have never like the look of Alpines HU, so i have never look to much to then but they are great, new pioneer line looks nice and work nice, but feels cheap, and Kenwood excelon is right now my best option cause it have al the features the other have, looks nice and last long.

PS: dont limit your options until you make completly make your mind, your best change is to put top of the budget you want to spend a start from there, that way you'll find the best your money can buy.

i've had my kenwood for 8 years or so. as long as it has decent power 50w x 4 or so, can adjust mid, treble and bass, and has at least an aux input on the back and a radio then the thing is money. oh and there's nothing wrong with walmart just keep your receipt, actually don't even keep your receipt just argue about their no questions asked return policy and you can get your moneys back if it breaks or you dont like it.

THANKS ALOT FOR ALL THE HELP, i'm gonna keep it alpine, That sony sounds good on paper but my guts saying get the alpine, and so is everyone else. I'll let SONY make my t.v.s and let Alpine disturb the peace.

This is funny...

when considering audio / video equipment keep in mind the following; your needs (rear camera input, digital radio ready etc), what type of monitor system would you preffer, overhead, indash, headrest etc. and very important to have a good anti shock mechanism, dont go by brand,,, while alpine is an excellent choice!! you do pay for it!! pioneer is great but sometimes they do not play all formats, i do not recomend sony as their quality has gone down considerably. to try it out.. i bought an inexpensive PYLE
