What could this be?

When I went to start my 2005 Sport Trac this morning, it started for a second then shut off, I tried to start it again and it started, I drove it to work and it was fine. I shut it off and tried to start it again and it turned right over. Could this be a bad intake gasket? I recently had the alternator replaced and the thermostat housing replaced.. This is the first time this has happened.

If it only happened once I wouldn't worry about it too much. It it starts doing it regularly it would be more of a concern.

The Job 2 intake gaskets are much thicker than the old Job 1 style and don't tend to dry up and leak so easily. The alternator and t hemostat housing should have any thing to do with your experience either.

You might consider cleaning your MAF sensor, especially if you you an oiled filter (like a K&N).

Unfortunately there is a known ST "gremlin" that is a rare occurence. This from the owner of the MyST web site:

We call that the ST gremlin.....

Just shut it off and re start it will go away...

Agree with Koda. In addition, clean the IAC, throttle body, and inspect the PCV elbow.
