What do I NEED to hook-up on a Bulldog remote starter?

Looking though the instructions I think i can get rid of the hood pin and the door locks and all that junk. But what about the acc. heater blower wires? I can't see why i would need those. I also read about some transponder problems with the keys when I was searching. Could someone elaborate on how to get around that, or if its even an issue? I live in an apt complex so im trying to minimize my exposure to the cold while installing this damn thing

The heater/blower wires would allow the interior of the car to be heated or cooled to your liking. Without it, the only thing that warms up is the engine.
You would probably be able to get by without them, just only connect one acc. power wire for the starter.

I think that you may need an alarm bypass module in order to install it in your explorer, but I have only installed one in a '95 corolla, so I am not familiar with the explorers. Most of the alarm bypass modules require a special key, but I am not sure about you needing one.

I installed one recently but I used the T-harness and the acc. heater blower wires are already spliced on it so I'm not sure if the blower will come on or not if you don't hook it up. There are no hook ups for other stuff like the radio or wipers but if the switches are on they will come on when the unit starts your X. Which unit did you get? Check their website and get the transponder bypass.

Ive got the RS82i

Thats what I couldn't understand. Its seems to me that if its running my heater is going to work anyway as long as its turned on when it starts.

I just read this from bulldogs webpage troubleshooting guide. Sounds like they may need to be hooked up.


Q2: Start re-engages 10 seconds after remote starting:

A: 1. WHITE/BLACK 12ga. wire from relay pack is not connected to the proper ACCESSORY wire that turns on the charging system on the vehicle.

I talked my buddy and he said that you DO need that to be hooked up. My opinion, you should go ahead and just hook everything up. Just do it all right the first time and be done with it.

You should have bought the T-Harness from http://www.directwholesale.net. It's only like $10 or $20 and it'll make the install so much quicker and easier.

If you have a PATS system, I believe your going to need a bypass. I think they have them on there.

I spoke to the tech support at Bulldog and he said that both blower wires (front and rear I think) can be hooked together instead of using the relay like in the instructions (for my model 112). Did you just use one of them? Do you have 2 blowers? Perhaps that is the issue.

did you check the connections at the unit? Those wires are part of the T-harness so they should be spliced right.

I'm getting a remote car starter installed next week, and they told me to bring two keys so they can bypass the PATS system. Why do I have to do that? Are they going to give me new keys?

I figured it out. I installed like the manual said and I forgot to check the website for updates. Now I have to take everything apart to move one wire.

They need the keys so they can program the unit. With the PATS system the key has to be close to the ignition or it wont start. There is a module they will probably install to make the starter "think" the key is in the ignition.

one thing that I did to bypass the PATS is to actually take a transponder out of one of my keys and glue it right next to the ignition so it thinks the key is there. Saves money, but some might think of it as a secruity issue.. but I don't mind. I used a starter that isn't bulldog and I am not really satisfied with the quality of the actually remote start key chain.. its made of cheap plastic and the battery seemed to die pretty quick.

does the bulldog seem like a better system?

Reasons why i got my bulldog.

#1 I can use the factory remote to activate the starter (no need for two remotes)

#2 ease of installation. I did it myself in under two hours. Would have been allot less but I got sidetracked. I would strongly recommend their wire harness as it made the job go really fast.
