The 2000 has been sitting for over a year. Just got the fuel pump fixed. What do you guys suggest I should do with the old gas ? I have the tank off now and there is about 1/4 tank. Is the gas good for driving or should I just dump it ? If so where do you go to dump gas ? (besides the river)

You have 2 options...

Dump all the gas, taking with it any and all contaminants/debris in the tank,OR put it back in, as is and fill it up the rest of the way with premium gas.

Pick 1.

Dump the gas into a container and have yourself a nice bonfire with it,easy way to get rid of it.:D

Dump the gas into a 5 gallon pail and use it for parts cleaner :D

last time I did anything like that I kept the old gas to run in a lawnmower. that was 8 years ago, the lawnmower still works fine:)

when I pulled the little filter off the pump the thing was soggy and totally black. is that normal. I don't remember my 96 having a black filter.

Gas is too expensive to just dump. I would put half of it back in the truck pouring it through a funnel with a filter and refill the tank. Then the next time I filled the tank I would use the other half of it. I wouldnt put all of the old stuff in at once.

Fire! Put it in a bucket and shoot roman candles at it!

But seriously, If you are worried about it being bad, don't run it in a car. It may work in a push mower or for 2 cycle mix for a weed wacker though.

don't run it in a car.

As is you still might have to replace the tank because of the corrosion. Search for threads around here about people having multiple fuel pumps die from gas sitting in a tank.

thats exactly what i did with mine (but i had 12 gallons of it which sat for 2 years) made a few nice bonfires this summer...also gave me reasons to drink alot of beer and have a party! no gas = no burn which = no fun!!!!!!!

Gas isn't going bad in a sealed tank in just 1 year. Don't worry about it, it's more of a myth.

Gezzz, my s'ploder sat for over 3 years outside before I got my hands on it. Never even thought about the gas as it fired right up and drove fine. Of course the battery was shot and the rotors were a bit rusty, but she ran just fine.

With ethanol in gas now a days gas does not really go bad anymore. Like lacky said, if there is sediments in the gas that would be the only thing that would hurt it. Really its up to your comfort level if you want to use it again.

I decided to put it back in slowly when I have a full tank of clean gas and a couple of liters every fill up. The tank wasn't corroded, I flashed a light in there and it was actually quite clean, only some little rust pieces floating around that fell in from the top.
