alright, heres the deal. my explorer tranny went again, and to me its not worth it to fix the tranny. my boss has a 97 nissan pickup extended cab 4 cyl 5 speed. its got 87,000 miles on it, and ive been driving it for about a week streight now (due to death of explorer). the truck seems pretty nice, and ive proven its off road ability before. doesn anybody have any expierence with them, or know of any common problems that they have? he wants $5,000 for it by the way. thanks for info!

I've just heard they are unreliable and underpowered, no firsthand experience though.

The ones I have seen are shoddily made....all the little things go bad like locks, windows etc....

Not really answering your question, but I know a guy with an 80's nissan pickup. The engine has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. Are there any other automotive engines that use multiple spark plugs per cylinder?

The RX-7's rotary engines do ;)

My roommate's '93 Ranger had 2 plugs per cylinder as well... Not sure if Ford still does this on the 4 cylinder rangers.

One of my bros-in-law in Mexico has one. Old, with a tons of miles, but runs like a champ. Very reliable worktruck. The only thing that had to be done were normal wear items like brake pads and clutch. That's the only personal experience I have with them.

I had a '97 king cab 4X4 4 cyl 5 spd. It was underpowered and low gas mileage (about 15mpg avg)
Never had breakdown/repair problems in 5 years. I also had an '86 king cab 4 cyl 5 spd. I liked the older engine better. They changed the 4 cyl engine in 98 to improve hp and mileage.

My brother has a 96 Nissan reg cab, 5spd. Its got nearly 100k miles on it, and runs awesome. He just recently had an accident, and had to rebuild the front end, but had it nnot been for the accident, I feel it would've kept going for a lot longer as it was. Hes not plannin on getting rid of it for a long time. Granted its not the "coolest" looking thing out there, but its reliable, decenetly fuel efficient, and relatively inexpensive. Just my Opinion though :)

cool great info guys,a lot of conflicting thoughts though. its definitely pretty ugly, but my boss has had good luck with it so far. something to consider i guess.

The frames are made by Tower Automotive, and that's all that I know besides being too small and too underpowered for me. :)

Well, my buddy has a 95 Pathfinder w/120k. He loves it. Runs better then my Explorer and has a much smoother ride.

To date, he has only replaced the Water pump, lower ball joints, muffler. Cant remember what else he has replaced, OH wait... he had to replace the running boards(rusted out)!

IMO Nissan trucks/SUVs are just as good, if not better then Fords trucks/SUVs.

As far as power goes, his patherfinder which is the same year as mine has more power!
