Background: I'm planning on turning my 91' Ex into a family wagon, eventually strapping some car seats in the back to haul around kids, groceries and camping gear. I've got clearance from the wife to spend the $$ necessary to get it up to snuff. The PO was a mechanic who did some engine work and put a new tranny innit.

All that said, I want to get new suspension all the way around (current stuff is shot, leafs are separating, clunking when driving, etc). How does this look? Right parts for a '91 4x4 XLT? Everything compatable? Anything you would do different? I'm setting aside 3 days to do all of this.

Personally, I don't like the Moog balljoints anymore. They don't last.

I like the Spicer (hard to find) or Mcquay Norris extreme (may be Raybestos higher grade ones) ball joints.

Otherwise, if your staying completely stock the list isn't bad.

Thanks for the tip about the ball joints, I went with moog on everything because I thought they were top of the line.

I thought about going with a Rough Country or some other lift kit, but I don't need it. The only time I'd need 4x4 is maybe up in the snow. I'll keep it stock.

Good call on the Ranchos. I've run them for a while and have no complaints. Certainly better than stock, and they don't break the bank either.

FYI, Advance Auto Parts is having an online promotion with coupon codes for 40% off, so if you have a store near you, you might be able to buy say, $100 worth of stuff, and get $40 off, potentially making it a better deal than some of Rockauto's items. Just something to check out, especially if you live near a big AAP that will have 91-94 stuff in stock. Of course, if it's non-stock items and AAP's prices are higher with tax and shipping, Rockauto will be a better deal. Don't forget to use a 5% Rockauto coupon, too!

As for the ball joints, I looked into the McQuay-Norris Extreme, and they are just 1 year warranty joints. I haven't found Spicers anywhere. I got new ball joints from NAPA, and they offer top-of-the-line joints with a lifetime replacement warranty for about the same price. Basically the same Heavy-Duty construction as the McQuay, just a different manufacturer under their house brand.
Depending how hard you are on them, this could save a lot of money on parts. Just be sure you save the receipt, it's the only thing that shows you bought them and that they are under the lifetime warranty. Even if they change the lifetime warranty policy down the road (which they did on brakes and slave cylinders, apparently), if you bought them when they offered the lifetime warranty, they will honor it.

Is this a Christmas List?

x2 on Moog - issue with there products too...

Those higher end napa ball joints are actually the spicer joints I was trying to get.

Is this a Christmas List?
Haha, pretty close. After talking to the wife I might not be buying this all at once, we'll see.

I don't have an Advanced Auto Parts here, but we do have Napa...I'll go with the ball joints from them...I'm glad I posted this. I want to make sure I get quality parts in there. Thanks guys.
