I have a 1992 Thunderbird with a 5.0 HO and AOD with about 80,000 miles on it. What does this engine share with the 5.0 in my early 1997 Explorer? Mainly the block and heads, are they swappable? I need to decide if I want to hold onto this for future use, possibly a stroker motor or something.

Here is the engine...

And for fun, here is the car. It's in storage now, but I'll be getting it back out in spring...

-Short Block is the same.

-Cam is different.
-Heads will interchange, but are better on the Explorer.
-Intake is better on the explorer, along with the EFI system.
-Front accessories are different on the Explorer.
-Explorer does not have a distributor.

I'd save it, rebuild it, and then use your explorer front accessories, intake and efi system

Excellent information, thank you! The block and it's internals were the main items I was curious about, and wether or not my current heads and accories would bolt to the older block.
