I have a stock 92 X with a 4.0L V6 and a 5-speed Mazda trans. So far the gears I have right now are 3:27's.Now i drive it and it s a bit sluggy off the line. What would be a good upgrade with the stock tires on now (235/75r15)?

Also, is it a good idea to gut the cats???We have no emission laws here.

3.73 would be good with the stock tires. if you can find a good deal on it, i would just swap over the axles from a donor truck.

4.10 would make you very happy, even with the stock tires. The 5-speed tranny’s overdrive is geared a little higher then the auto’s, so lower gears really aren’t all that bad.

Only thing is, your not going to find 4.10 in a stock vechicle; you would have to set up the gears.

I was wondering the same thing, my 92 has 3.55 axles with a 5speed, I want to get some 32's later on with a 4 inch lift, is 4.10's the best option?

I have 31's with 3.08s...and I didnt notice a very big change in anything. I'm not sure why people think you need 4.10's for 31"s and so on...

for 32"s id just go straight to 4.56, esspecially if you have the 5 speed. Unless you do 80mph daily, 4.56 is great.

2900-3000rpm @ 70mph in OD.

those must be some small 31"s, I had 3.27 on my 32s (really a 31" @ 30.9"), and it was HORRID. It even sucked on the highway.

With 3.08s and 31'd, doing 100kmh'ish(60MPH) the engines doing 1800RPM. Truck has 265,000KM on it, we've had the truck since may and its on its second transmission. There wasn't any real difference when I put the 31's on. I'm not sure what they measure but I can measure them when the truck get back home.

some guy on ebay is selling a first gen with 3.27's and 35's

I know that the 4.10's come in Rangers.I just don't know where to find the gears for the front diff.

Ok. I have a set of 4.10's now for the rear diff. What year ranger/explorer will have the 4.10's in the front Dana 35??????

so its better to have higher gears for the highway, and lower gears for city driving correct?

and higher gears for the for larger tires?
