I have a 96 explorer that I am going to lift.
I was going to use the 98 ranger body lift.
What happens to the steering shaft... will it telescope far enough??? with the 3" lift or do i need some type of extension.. if so.. where can i get one.

Thanks

Flaming River

They make an extension that corrects the binding. Also, the kit you purchase should come with an extension. My 2" Performance Accessories kit did.

Hmmmm

I ran into the same problem....when I called Flaming River, they said they didn't have anything.

The Peformance Accessories kit comes with an extention, however, you've gotta do some grinding and dremeling to both it and your steering shaft to make it fit. Once I did that, it worked like a charm. Also, if you've got a manual trans, you'll need to order the shifter extention separately, AND it'll need to be rebored a bit over to fit. Also, half of the body mount bolts are the wrong length AND the rear bumper brackets need to be heavily modified and/or cut to work. Lastly, the front bumper mounts are kind of cheesy and thin.

All in all, kind of a crappy solution, but it's your only option as far as a body lift kit goes. ORW told me they weren't going to sell it anymore for the Explorer.

do you remember which bolts where to the wrong size....how many I need-length- and also thread/Dia???? I am installing on a 4 door- not sure if it has more mounts then a 2 door- never looked at one.

also how do your 33"x10.5" fit? do they rub? what type or rim and back spacing do they have? do you have the shackle/torsion twist?

do you think it would be posible to run 33"x12.5" without rubbing? right now I have a set or 17x9" with 5.59" backspacing and would LOVE to get the Pro-Comp 33x12.5xR17

but before i get carried away- I am going to get the lift set-up done and then barrow my friends rims and tires for a week or so- and see how they perform.

thanks a lot
Marc

Marc- In my opinion, I wouldn't lift yer truck....I think it looks great and maybe even complete it so it looks more like a saleen with graphics etc...although, with the cobra rims, they may look sweet with a set of mussin tires...but personally ya've done a great job so far, why not fool everyone more so that it's a saleen?
Just my thought

mmmmmm

Seems to me I recall that all of them on one side were too long, by about a half inch, but I don't remember exactly.

The 33x10.50s on standard backspacing 15x8 AR 767 wheels fit w/o any rubbing, but I had to trim a bit of plastic trim from the wheelwell. All in all, I was kind of glad I didn't do the 12.50's, though most of the guys here went with them.... I also had to remove the front splash guards.
