Hi all,

I have a 2000 XLT SOHC and want to make some Horsepower mods, but cannot spend thousands. Any suggestions?

I would definately go with a KKM ( about $100 ) and a custome cat back exhaust ( about $200 ). Next I would recommend a complete fluid change over to synthetics,

Good luck.....

I second what Al said, but throw a chip on it. add @$250. Super/Hyper, it's a matter of taste.

you can buy a Diablo chip from Troll for about $165

If you want more power its simple really, more air in, more air out.

I agree with others above,

KKM True-Rev is a MUST HAVE!!! only $90 plus shipping

A nice freeflowing exhaust, if you must have Flowmasters on a v6, I would DEFINITELY get Deltaflows, you don't want your truck to sound like an angry bumblebee. Plan on spending no more than $250 total for a custom exhaust set up from a good quality muffler shop.

A chip is a good idea. I'm currently doing some research and looking into buying a Superchip myself, and I've pretty much made up my mind to get one. They're around $230 (you can get them from the same place you get the KKM True Rev so if you decide to order both at the same time you'll save some on shipping) and from what I've heard are WELL worth it.

With those 3 mods, you'll be at right around $600, and should pick up a realistic gain of at least 10hp, maybe more, but it'll sure feel like more. Your truck will be completely different from the way it was when you first bought it.

I'd consider my truck fast, fast for an 2-ton Explorer AWD certainly. I'm not it the same league as say Troll, but Troll is really in a league of his own. (lets just say this guys Explorer is somewhat reasonably decently rather slightly just a bit faster than stock :D ) Having a few performance parts on your truck really makes you enjoy it that much more, and it may prompt you to do other crazy things... I just ordered 5.0L badge for mine... heh heh heh........... ......ok i'm an idiot.. but thats what happens when you get 0 hours of sleep.

a better air filter is good, definately a chip (see the superchip group purchase in the group purchases forum, you can get a better deal and help out the explorer board at the same time).
Also, if you've got some dough and some mechanical ability, definately recommend some headers. Can also get that from Mike Troyer (the guy thats doing the superchip group buy)

Air Filter, Cat-Back, Headers. Money left over to boot.

I just had to reply, I have this friend who is 6'5" and around 330lbs, he drives a lowrider pontiac sunfire, well one night he was asking me what he could do to make his car alittle faster and "LIGHTER" well we was saying like changing to two twelves in the trunk to 10's and all this other stuff right, well he goes mike what do you think i could do to lighten my car, and in a calm voice I said "JOG" and it was funnier than hell, we were both rolling laughing so hard, but all the stuff above are good choices for power, but you could always run to lighten your overall weight while in the x.

Furthermore, Gearing would be the biggest difference in performance. Headers would need a little tinkering.

I agree with pretty much everytrhing thats been said so far, exhaust, kkm, and the oil-synthetics change over.

HOWEVER, don't expect to see a noticable performance gain from just these few mods. I've done it, and I'm probally the slowest human being in my city. I've been beaten by everything from beat up old cadillacs to minivans to a purple hear veteran in an escort.

You may notice yer biggest difference in the higher rpms with these mods, as thas when yer engine needs it most, but just.. don't get yer hopes up for a night and day difference :)

goodluck
