I've got a 2002 Ltd with about 50,000 and it's time for new tires, and was hoping someone could advise if the problems associated with upgrading to a tire size larger than OEM would be worth it.

I understand an odometer adjustment will be required and I'll have the dealer do that, but the the local tire guy advised that it could also compromise the ABS. That's when I thought I should post a query here.

I've settled on the LTX by Michelin, but wanted to fill the wheel well a little more, really just for aesthetics.

Any sage advise would be appreciated.

I Did This And Get Much Better Gas Mileage. I Went From A P255 To A P265. The Tire Will Cover More Ground Turning Less Times Per Mile. The Speedo Will Be Off Just A Little, But It Is Worth It.

I went with the OEM size Michelin LTX M/S when I got my
" 5 FREE NEW TIRES ", and they fill the wheel wells just fine.

Because the odometer is reading more miles than you are actually travelling.

definetly worth upgrading to bigger tires, i have notice no change in mpg. the speedo will only be off by maybe 1- 2 mph under nomal driving and maybe 3-4 as you speed increases. here's what my 03 explorer looks like with
p265/70/16 tires, not even close to rubbing but fills the wheel wells just right.

Actually, the odometer would log less miles than actually traveled. As long as your gearing isn't high from the factory slightly larger tires, granted they don't wieght a lot more, and have a similar rolling resistance will get better mileage than a stock size.
