I have a 94 Explorer Sport and I am beginning to start to customize it. I have ran into a problem. I can't decide which exhaust system to put on my Explorer. There are so many that are out there. And it is not like I can buy them all and see which one I like. I am looking for a exhaust system that sounds like it has some balls but that won't let the cops hear me from a mile away. I know almost everybody has added an exhaust system to there explorer. I am just asking to give me some suggestions and opinions. Thanks.

There was been a lot of discussion about exhaust system that was very interesting. Maybe if you run (click) the search :cool about "exhaust" there will be a lot of informative topics. I don't have a comparison, but, I have a flowmaster in my 1997 XLT V6 SOH. I like the sound, not to loud, it "growl" during acceleration and quites down on cruising speed. I sure also about an added HP. Dead Link Removed. The best they said is Borla but I don't like the sound - too loud when I was riding with my friends Explorer.

Well, I am in the market for one of these puppies myself. So far I've found that Flowmasters sound best, but as far as performance, no good because they are really the best for car that have no cat converters, but not on newer cars with the converter.
Next are the Dynomax which have great performance, but they create some backpressure. ?? And the "best" is Magnaflow, because of its straight direct free flow and great performance.
Keep in mind that when I asked around, I alway said that the main factor on my decision making was performance and only performance, not sound.

What do you guys think?

Oh, yes Borla. Basically why spend all that money for a muffler that will last much longer than your truck will?

i had the dynomax catback exhaust on my 94 explorer. I ran it for a few months, but then decided to change it out. I wanted something that sounded louder, but sounded good. The dynomax set up was a 2 inch in and 2.25 out. I changed to a deltaflow flowmaster 2chamber 40 series. 2.25 in and out. My mileage went up. When you get on it sounds pretty darn close to a V-8. Has a nice rumble to it. Not annoying in the cab, but loud on the outside. Not cop problem loud and i live in southern cal too. Out here my exhaust is suttle compared to those rice rockets. Anyways....When i went down and talked to the muffler guy he told me that the magnaflow is rated for 2 ounds of backpressure. The 2 chamber flowmaster is rated for 1. Havent heard the magnaflow, but its the exact design of Borla with the lazy S straight through design. Personally i would go with a 2 chamber flowmaster 2.25 in and out. Its resonable on price and will give you the sound that your looking for along with performance. Borla is nice, but i dont think worth the extra cash..unless you have it.

Torque-I went with separate parts to my exhaust system. I first had a UltraFlo stainless straight through muffler which is shorter than stock with custom bent 2.25" pipe from the cat back. You could look straight through the muffler with no barrier blocking it. Next I added a Super Converter by Dynomax. It increase the flow by 26% over stock converter. The combination creates a nice low mellow rumble. Not irritating in the cabin. I'll admit that in some cases going separate might be more costly, but you'll have the ability to run the type of muffler with your preference of pipe diameter and exit where you want it to exit. Next in line is headers. I like Borla because they're stainless, but after reading the posts it might take a backseat to BBKs which are Jet-Hot coated. I'm taking a wait and see position for now until I find out more on the Borla good and bad.
